Jo Ann French, Music Director

Email: jfrench.galilee@gmail.com

Bright Monday 2013 5x7Jo Ann has been involved in leading church music since she was fourteen years old, when she began to play the organ in the Methodist church where she grew up. Her music training began at a young age, when her mother sang to her all the time and taught her how to harmonize in song. She was an exchange student in Coburg, Germany after high school and attended a music school there for a year. Now an active performer and piano teacher, Jo Ann loves playing in a piano trio (piano, violin, cello). She is the caregiver for her mother, who resides in the memory care area at Lyngblomsten Care Center. One of the highlights for her is the Friday afternoon singalong that she leads for the memory care residents.

Being able to speak German helped her to get a job at Sperry (now Unisys) as a translator of software specifications for a project with a German corporation and another year of living in Germany, this time working in Bremen. It was at Sperry where she met her husband of 31 years, Howard; they have a son, Daniel. Jo Ann and Howard love to visit the National Parks, especially Yellowstone, where they enjoy the Upper Geyser Basin. They have worked as peasants at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for many years. Needlework, especially knitting, is one of Jo Ann’s passions, and she is also learning to weave on the six (!) looms people have given her. She loves to go to concerts, and her favorite music is when people sing together, so she loves directing the Galilee Choir and leading the congregation in song.

Anne Rykken, Administrative Assistant

Email: office.galilee@gmail.com

IMG_4431Anne is new to being an administrative assistant. She’s been a graphic designer all of her career, employed primarily at Minnehaha Academy, designing, writing, producing their quarterly alumni magazine and coaching their Nordic ski team, and/or supporting the marketing of a couple local architecture and planning firms. So, while designing bulletins are new to her, she’s picked it up quickly. As well, her dad was a Lutheran pastor and Anne’s first job was covering for his vacationing secretary for two weeks in eighth grade. Needless to say, she’s got this down!

When Anne’s not in the Galilee office, she enjoys biking, running, xc skiing, hiking – about anything outdoors, as well as woodworking, and furniture design. The photo of her here is from a recent hike, coast-to-coast across England with her husband.

Anne and her husband, Scott, just became grandparents and are looking forward to another grandbaby in July!
